School Libraries

Partnerships

In small cities, towns and rural villages, the school is the place to establish an English language library. Because there isn’t a public children’s library, our requirement is less stringent. Local government still contributes the facility, the personnel and the operating budget; we provide the literary materials. All we ask is that the books are accessible for all children who are interested, and that periodic reports are provided to us to ensure the donation is fully utilized.

Process

Several approaches:

  1. Small cities and towns request our book donation by indicating their needs and capabilities. We send materials after all governmental regulations are met.
  2. We partner with other nonprofit organizations that build schools in remote areas of China. Our book donations go to these schools built with US funding and monitoring.
  3. Some of the so-called “floating population” of China have set up their own schools, because the parents don’t have the permit to reside in the cities and therefore their children are not eligible for public education. These schools may request our donation.
  4. School for disadvantaged girls in certain areas, school for special-needs children, school for the blind, etc. may request our donation.

Follow-up

Each school where an Apple Tree library is established will be contacted periodically and is required to provide feedback. Volunteers are needed to help monitor these libraries.
